Windows: Resolution too large and can't seem to reset it
Some Windows users with multiple monitors or atypical monitor resolutions have reported issues where the game detects a very large resolution and it can seem impossible to reset from within the game.
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire stores its configuration in the Windows Registry. To reset the settings, adjusting or deleting the registry key for the resolution can help to reset the game's resolution settings.
Note: This support article is intended for advanced users who are familiar with working with the registry and are provided at your own risk.
Try Resetting Auto Detection
The first suggestion is to try resetting auto detection and running the game. To do this:
- Exit the game, if it is running. It's important that the game not be running when this change is made, as it could overwrite the settings when exiting.
- Download the deadfire-reset-autodetect.reg and double-click it. It will require administrative access to your PC. This will cause the game to try auto detecting settings on next startup. This may fix the problem for some users.
- Try running the game again and, if successful, adjust settings in the game as desired.
Try Adjusting Resolution Settings
If the previous step didn't work, the next suggestion to try is setting your resolution settings to a standard resolution that will then allow you to adjust your settings in game.
This script will set the resolution of the game to 1920x1080.
- Exit the game, if it is running.
- Download the deadfire-set-res.reg and double-click it. It will require administrative access to your PC.
- Try running the game again and adjust settings, if successful.
For very advanced users, you can edit this file and adjust the screen width and height to your desired choices. Note that the values are in hexadecimal, so they need to be converted properly before editing.
Try Fully Resetting All Game Settings
This last option will delete all Deadfire game settings and should only be attempted if the above steps failed.
- Exit the game, if it is running.
- Download the deadfire-delete-settings.reg and double-click it. This will require administrative access to your PC. Again, this will delete all previous Deadfire settings!
